WHY CHOOSE TO BE ODD?
I don't think most stay-home dads set out in life to be one. I'm no exception. Debra and I held and left our full time jobs not knowing how it will turn out. When we started out building Hiro & Jack, people around us were skeptical and very curious...
3 REASONS THAT MAKE THIS ODD LIFE WORTH IT...
#1 The clock doesn't go backwards
Since the birth of Gwyneth, I realise that I remember very little of Matthias' first year.
That is because we both went back to our full time jobs and he spent most of the day cared for by the grandparents. I saw Gwyn reach all of her milestones including flipping over for the first time, saying her first words and walking for the first time on her own (10 steps to be precise). These are precious memories that make families. These are moments that don't come back once they are gone.
#2 "I don't want to be a second-hand parent"
I remember saying those exact words to my big boss in her office after sending in my resignation. Needless to say, she kept very silent for a moment, as if to reflect on her own motherhood. I couldn't and still can't make sense of "outsourcing" parenthood to others and only see my kids 2 hours a day.
#3 There is no KPI to fulfil
At the end of the day despite all our struggles, we know we have done our best. A goodnight kiss and a family hug makes it all worth while.
