"In the midst of busy work schedules and exhausting days, how can we fill our family up with love?"
"Hey! we barely have enough, how can we afford to enjoy family fun?"
The pressures of work, money and school are REAL! But we NEED NOT bow to them and deny ourselves of lovely family time! Having left stable jobs and being plunged into uncertainty has taught Debra and I what family fun is:
1. It is an intentional act
2. Doesn't have to cost a lot (If you are creative, it can be free!)
3. Can fill the family up with love and great memories
4. Full engagement!
What it is not:
1. Doing activities
2. Spending money
3. Being together but using our phones and devices
It really is the time together and not the activity that matters. For our family, we take walks together, eat together and we play with the kids at the playground! It gives us an opportunity to give full attention to each other and fill each other's love tanks :)
Here are some ideas of places in Singapore you can spend quality time together...
#1 The Marina Barrage
Get to the second level and enjoy the amazing large lawn! An awesome place to picnic, fly a kite, take a walk and just relax! No entrance fee, opens all day and accessible via car, public bus or by foot from Gardens By the Bay
#2 Changi Airport
One of our favourites! The airport is extremely accessible by Bus and Train, opens 24 hours and not affected by weather! This is one of the best places to head to even with an infant because there are baby changing rooms and even rooms to nurse in. The comfortable indoor temperature and large open spaces make it relaxing for the adults. Kids will love the two playgrounds! Terminal 3 (Level B2) has one playground more suitable for young kids and Terminal 1 (viewing gallery) has a larger playground with slides!
#3 IKEA (Tampines)
Meatballs, chicken wings, $1 hotdogs and guilt-free soya ice-cream for 50 cents! Enjoy the food without your phones and play pretend in all the amazing home interior set-ups! Don't worry about parking charges because you get free-parking :)
#4 Admiralty Park
We found this gem recently and highly recommend it! Your kids will LOVE it! You can access the park via Republic Polytechnic (15 minutes from Woodlands MRT) or simply take a very short taxi ride from the station itself.
SLIDES that get even the adults excited! There are so many slides and the entire place is a HUGE playground for family bonding. You can actually play WITH your children. There are sand pits, a swing for parent and child as well as a swing for the wheel-chair bound.
Feel free to share how and where you spend your quality family time :)
